When Jill’s son had his second difficult cancer operation in 2012 after being diagnosed in 2010, a group of neighbors gave him an iPAD. Their heartfelt thoughtfulness at a crucially hard time for her son and her family ignited Jill’s passion to help other local families facing pediatric cancer and chronic blood disorders. Raising funds through sharing nourishing recipes became the inspiration for the birth of SunningHill Jill Kids in 2017.
SunningHill Jill Kids was created to provide as many 'BEST DAYS OF THEIR LIVES' as possible for kids undergoing treatment for cancer or a chronic blood disease. Approximately 7 children a week are diagnosed with cancer and other chronic blood diseases at Levine Children’s Hospital (that’s 25 per month or 300 per year!). Treatment can be as much as 5 days per week, up to 8 hours per day, and continue for months and sometimes years!
We work directly with nurses and social workers who identify individual family needs and with your support Sunninghilljill Kids is then able to fulfill every request.
Our mission, in partnership with our community, is to provide critical assistance and vital support to families along with uplifting gifts to patients. This can be achieved through your generous donations and support. Join us and connect with a child and family forever through your kindness!
Family Support
For most families these are the most difficult of times, emotionally, mentally and certainly financially. Treatment is often expensive and unaffordable for many; jobs can go from full time to part time to jobless in order for parents to be in the hospital supporting their kids; daily financial burdens (mortgages, rent, utility bills) don’t take a break and all put a further strain on the shoulders of families.
With your financial support we can help families get through these difficult times without having the added worry and stress of financial and employment burdens.
Time Together
Time becomes even more precious with a sick child and we want to help families get away and have time together. Your donations can help make this happen.
Many of these kids are undergoing gruelling treatments or grim diagnosis and a day, a weekend, or a week away offers enormous respite not only for the kids but their families too - helping to make forever memories!
It could be a day out to a water park, a trip to a baseball game, or even a family weekend away to the beach or the mountains. For most of us these things come relatively easily but for families and kids undergoing treatment and who spend so much time in hospital, these times are incredibly challenging to plan and your generous donations can help make these special times together a reality, which will be cherished forever.
iPads
SunningHill Jill Kids was originally inspired by a caring neighborhood and a heartfelt gift of an iPad to Jill's 15 year old son who had just undergone his second major operation for a rare form of kidney cancer.
She will never forget his words that day when he received his iPad while in recovery and during a time when their family was coming to terms with this completely ‘out of the blue’ diagnosis.
His exact words were; “This is the best day of my life!”
An iPad can provide connection, communication, and entertainment, while also showing love and compassion to a child and their family undergoing long treatments and recovery times and of course, a little bit of escapism from their daily challenges! With your help we can bring a smile to as many kids as possible, with the gift of an iPad.
